The key to success in Fantasy Premier League is getting the most points out of your £100 million. That means trying to find some bargains. You may like a player, but do you also like their price?
So with that in mind here is a list of players who we think are mispriced in FPL this season. That is either because their price in the game is based on assumptions that have changed since the game was launched this season, or because we think the assumptions are questionable.
This makes these players fascinating options for your team. One example of this last season was Marcus Rashford, whose price was cut to £6.5 million after a disappointing season the year before, but who had already shown in pre-season that he was looking sharp and confident again. Another was Andreas Pereira, who was priced as a £4.5 million back-up at Manchester United, but then moved to Fulham where he was a key player. Both these players are more expensive this season.
So who could be the next Rashford or Pereira? Here is our initial list of mispriced players for this season, which we will be updating between now and the start of Gameweek 1…
Goalkeepers
Flekken, Brentford, £4.5m - Priced as though he would be competing for place in team with David Raya, but Raya is now heading to Arsenal
Verbruggen or Steele, Brighton, £4.5m - Uncertainty over who will be Brighton number one with Robert Sanchez, also £4.5m, now going to Chelsea. Keep your eye out for news
Update: Turner, Arsenal, £4m - Arsenal back-up heading to Nottingham Forest
Defenders
Torres, Aston Villa, £4.5m - £31.5 million signing from Villarreal who was coveted by other clubs, has played under manager Unai Emery before, and joins a team who kept 12 clean sheets last season. A lot to like…
Estupinan, Brighton, £5m - One of the best attacking full-backs in the league last season according to our data partner Impect. Finished with seven assists and 10 clean sheets, but price suggests this won’t be repeated. FPL players disagree. He is in more than half of all FPL teams ahead of new season…
James and Chilwell, Chelsea, both £5.5m - Discount from last year based on injury history but both are fit going into new season
Colwill, Chelsea, £4.5m - Promising 20-year-old defender who looked destined to be loaned out or just be back-up at Chelsea. However, has now committed to club with new long-term deal and clearly highly-rated
Botman, Newcastle, £4.5m - 13 clean sheets and two assists last season. Already in a quarter of FPL teams
Porro, Tottenham, £5m - Three goals, three assists and two clean sheets in just 13 appearances for Tottenham after joining last season. Don’t let the downbeat mood around Spurs obscure his potential
Update: Udogie, Tottenham, £4.5m - Italian youngster looks likely to start season as attacking left-back
Midfielders
Odegaard and Saka, Arsenal, £8.5m - Had elite seasons in 2022/2023 but priced as if that was a one-off. In contrast, Tottenham’s Son more expensive at £9m. De Bruyne got fewer points than both last season and is £10.5m
Diaby, Aston Villa, £6.5m - Similar to his teammate Torres, not priced as though he was one of the most coveted players in Europe this summer, which he was. Nine goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season and joins a team on the up
Mbeumo, Brentford, £6.5m - Likely to start season as main forward and on penalty duties because Ivan Toney is suspended
Mitoma, Brighton, £6.5m - Seven goals and nine assists for Brighton in 24 appearances last season. Looked one of the best wide-players in the Premier League when he was on the pitch and no reason that should change even if Brighton are weaker after losing key players
Eze, Crystal Place, £6.5m - Ten goals and five assists last season. Wilfried Zaha has left and Michael Olise could too, so will be Crystal Palace’s main man
Foden, Man City, £7.5m - Riyad Mahrez was key competition for his place in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up but has left
Rashford, Man United, £9m - A bit like Odegaard and Saka, priced as if last season’s performance was a one-off, but actually it was his bad season in 2021/2022 that was the one-off
Fernandes, Man United, £8.5m - Not been this cheap since his debut season in the Premier League, which he ended with eight goals and eight assists. Still delivered eight goals and nine assists last season despite a “down” year and underperformed his xG and xA
Elanga, Forest, £5m - The next Pereira? Former Man United back-up has joined Forest for £15 million. Could also be the next Lingard, however, who flopped last season despite high hopes and has left Forest
Morgan Gibbs-White, Forest, £6m - Five goals and 12 assists in debut Premier League season and still only 23. Priced as though he won’t improve but performances for England Under-21s this summer suggests he will
Richarlison, Tottenham, £7m - His inclusion is based on Harry Kane either leaving or starting the season out of the team. The Brazilian is also classed as a midfielder when he could play as forward
Bowen, West Ham, £7m - 18 goals and 26 assists over the last two seasons. A more reliable source of points than his price suggests but West Ham’s poor league season last year has dragged him down
Update: Anderson, Newcastle, £4.5m - Break-out season beckons for 20-year-old local lad after strong pre-season
Forwards
Ferguson or Joao Pedro, Brighton, £6m and £5.5m - Either of these two starting in forward role for Brighton will be well-placed to deliver big FPL returns. Welbeck is also £6m but not scored more than six goals in a season for 10 years
Nkunku and Jackson, Chelsea, £7.5m and £7m - Uncertainty over who will play upfront for Chelsea but at least one of these two has break-out potential. Both looked promising in pre-season
Calvert-Lewin, Everton, £6m - Cheapest he has been in FPL for four years after two injury-riddled seasons. Has played in recent pre-season matches and looks likely to be fit
Update: Højlund, Man United, £7m - Unlikely to play much initially due to back injury but cheaper than other starting strikers for big teams
Update: Mubama, West Ham, £4.5m - 18-year-old striker has three goals in impressive pre-season and there are doubts about other forwards at the club
